On My Joy Journey

“He was trying to remember if he was happy when the happiness was happening.”

I heard this quote in the movie, Love the Coopers, and it resonated with me in a surprising way. I think that’s happened to me more often than I’d like to admit. I look back at pictures of happy times and wonder why I didn’t feel happy at the time.

It’s taken me awhile, but I figured it out–I have a joy deficiency. It’s like a vitamin deficiency, except you can’t buy it at GNC. Sigh. Rather, it’s a thought deficiency. I’m flooded with non-joy thoughts.

But guess what?! I’ve been able to build up joy by journaling, keeping a list of things for which I’m grateful, praying for the joy of the Lord (it IS a fruit of the Spirit, after all), and reading a book a mentor suggested, Joy Starts Here.  I’m still on my joy journey, but glad to know that I’m making progress!
